Electric Nomad Truck Version 1.0
One of the great things about this setup is getting to build out the details, then change and rearrange them. However, now with nearly two years in I’ve got a cozy configuration that works for weekend nomad adventures, events, and day-trips, without preventing it from still being a great commuter vehicle.
Basics
I ordered the GoFastCamper V1 Platform Camper right after I drove the Ford 1-150 Lightning XLT home. Working with my local installer Apex Overland, I added the Zero 23 Peregrine Awning & Rask Camping Shower. Not long after that, I had to spring for the BedRug Classic Bed Mat to spare my feet from the hard ridges of the truck bed and I found the MagSpots™ for GFC and the DripRail™ for GFC from JE Design and Fabrication to be very important (You can get the drip rails from GFC now). This was enough to get me going on my first electric nomad adventures, disorganized, but not exactly roughing it!
Storage
The Elephant in the room
Of course we have to start with the frunk. It has enough room for a cooler, plenty of snacks, thee OneWheels or a couple of Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Boards and accessories. Unfortunately. the Snowboards are a little too long, so I’m still working on that!
The Truck Bed
A lot of the best stuff in this build is just repurposed stuff I had lying around. Starting with a milkcrate and a two-liter crate, I found they fit in between two Eno Lounger DL Chairs and a few straps easily attached to the bed frame keep it all in place. These cheap Cargo Tie Down Anchors, Cargo Net, and Command Strips Organizing Caddy are great for stowing odd and ends all around you so that common items are available, but not in the way. The last big expenditure was the Buildright Industries BedRack System which creates more storage, but also let’s me strap things down like my BEKVÄM Step stool / night stand.
Water, Propane, & Power
The Dometic Camp Jug & Faucut, camp sink, Ignk Gas Growler & Chafon portable power station all have a secure place for trips, but are also easy to pull out for daily driving. I go into cooking on the road more in my Electric Camp Cooking blog. The Luggable Loo / Double Doodie Bio-Gel bag system from Reliance works great with a “Do It Right” huh-huh Lowes bucket and even fits nicely in place of one of the chairs for solo trips. I wish I could say I planned all this out, but most of it just fell into place, like a hot 3-D Tetris streak.
Bedroom
It’s simple, get’s the job done, and not too hard to add a little more padding if you need it. I had an old camp pad that fit under the long bed section nicely and lives there nearly all the time. GFC had a limited run of glow in the dark space sheets that I got in on. It’s important to find a flat pillow to avoid putting pressure on the inside of the roof when you close it up, and I found that while Ikea’s pillows might be too bulky, that their FJÄDRAR Inner cushions are a perfect fit.
