Electric Camp Cooking
Of course I still own a wide variety of propane gizmos and camp stoves for outdoor cooking, but the F-150 Lightning provides an entirely new world of culinary options thanks to its built-in, high-output 110V Pro Power Onboard outlets integrated directly into the truck bed. There are tons of community videos online showing people running high-draw electric appliances all weekend long without draining even 10% of the vehicle's main traction battery, making it an incredibly viable and efficient option for my quick weekend getaways.
Pulling in at the golden hour
After giving up on finding one for sale, I picked up a Nuwave Precision Induction Cooktop. This setup works great for making a quick breakfast sandwich, is easier to clean up than a lot of camping stoves I’ve had, and packs up really nice. See here for yourself!
If I am already booking an electric campsite to handle my routine Camp’n and Charg’n power needs, integrating a clean, electric kitchen setup makes perfect sense. It also works beautifully for true off-grid boondocking, allowing me to completely rely on the truck's massive battery reserve for all daily power needs.
After all, who doesn't want to linger lazily around the campsite and take their sweet time getting moving in the morning?
Cooking with clean electric appliances is significantly easier to set up, manage, and clean up compared to the messy gas configurations I typically deal with while overlanding. Because it is so low-friction, I am far less likely to skip campsite cooking altogether in favor of hitting a local fast-food drive-thru. I get to fully enjoy the mountain sunrise with a warm beverage and a fresh, home-cooked breakfast while still indulging in a relaxed, lazy morning. I mean, it is supposed to be a vacation, right?
